When is the last time you rested?

I mean really rested. Rested your mind; rested your thoughts; rested your soul.
When is the last time you took a deep belly breath and exhaled it all the way out?
When is the last time you said, “That’s enough for now” to the to-do lists, to the demands, to the pressures, to the hustling, and gave yourself permission to step away, slow down, and BE?
Times of rest are so vital for our health and wellbeing. We were designed to need rest; our bodies require it. So do our minds and our hearts. The challenge is that the normal way of life for most of us does not automatically lend itself to rest. No one creates that time and space for us. Rather, everything and everyone is constantly pulling at our time and space, and if we do not choose to intentionally spend both wisely, we are choosing to squander them recklessly. And a life without rest is a life that will eventually collapse and breakdown.
My friend, I invite you, make time to rest. Make time for it before this day is over and make time for it every day from here on out. That does not necessarily mean laying on the couch and watching tv, though it may if that is what restores you. But it could also mean stepping away from technology and going for a walk outside. Or it could mean listening to music that stirs your soul. Or it could mean calling (yes, actually dialing a phone number and calling) a friend or loved one to connect. Or praying and journaling, or taking a nap, or enjoying a slow meal, or reading…the options are endless. The important thing is doing something that fills your soul, quiets your mind, stirs your heart, and reminds you that life is about rest just as much as it is about activity. And without both, life will not be balanced, healthy, or fulfilling.
So, give yourself permission to rest. Give yourself permission to put it all down for now and go do something that makes you smile. That brings you joy. That reminds you that life is a gift to be treasured. Because it is! And this is the only one you get. Invest it wisely, enjoy it thoroughly, and make time for the rest you need to live it abundantly.
Happy resting!
Do you struggle with giving yourself permission to rest? Do you battle thoughts of guilt and shame when you consider taking a break from work or saying "no" to something or someone? Do you struggle with identifying things that restore your heart, mind, and soul? I would be honored to partner with you through that journey to help you cultivate a deeper life of contentment, joy, and satisfaction! You were created for an abundant life! I can help you get there!
